Hello! I’m Desiree and the creator of Nature Based Living. I’m a mother of three, wife, teacher, writer, photographer and herbalist. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Education as well as multiple certifications in herbalism and dietetics. I started a course series as well as a blog as a way to organize my best thoughts about life and what I’ve learned in order to leave something for my children as well as share my passion for natural living and permaculture with others. I hope to pair traditional folk knowledge with modern evidence as well as have an outlet to share my adventures and life lessons!
In the age of information, there is still a lot of misinformation. In the spirit of being an educator, I value the genuine evidence behind particular lifestyle choices. I find it inspiring and empowering when indigenous and folk knowledge matches modern scientific research, a body of work that is ever expanding. Our ancestors innately knew that trees and plants were allies before they could ever know the precise chemical components that made it so. Nature gives us all the evidence and reasoning to live in a more natural and balanced state and we make a choice to work in those parameters or deal with the consequences, both personally and as a human society.
My herbal practice is Celtic inspired (by way of my Irish great grandmother and grandfather) and I play the bodhrán as a means of meditation as well. I’ve always had a deep love for all sorts of different music, animals and the natural world. I’m currently writing my first book, or rather a series of children’s books based on Celtic folklore as well as a historical fiction piece. In my spare time, I enjoy gardening, hiking and camping with my family.
My paid posts on herb profiles, food profiles and plant allies are donation based starting at $1 a month via paypal. Thank you for stopping by!
